Heritage Tourism Strategy
In 2006, Western Australia developed a Heritage Tourism Strategy. The aim of the strategy is to increase heritage tourism experiences across WA, to raise awareness of the importance of our heritage, and to encourage the ongoing conservation of WA’s heritage places.
Heritage tourism has the potential to considerably improve the economic vitality of numerous Western Australian communities, broaden Western Australia’s tourism base and improve awareness, appreciation and conservation of our physical and intangible heritage.
The Heritage Council and the State Heritage Office support the Heritage Tourism Strategy through a range of activities. The Heritage Council is a proud sponsor of the WA Tourism Awards, Perth Heritage Days and Open House Perth. The State Heritage Office is a major sponsor of the Forum Advocating Cultural and Eco-Tourism (FACET), an information resource centre for people with an interest in cultural, nature-based and eco-tourism that runs education seminars and events throughout the year.
